Undersecretary, Department of Health
Hailing from Davao City, he finished Medical Technology at the Far Eastern University-Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation-School of Medical Technology (FEU-NRMF-SMT). He graduated Cum Laude as a Doctor of Medicine and was elected also as the Batch President in1984, also at FEU.
His passion to render public health service started in 1985 when he served as a communitybased physician for a year in Davao. Flying to the United States, he finished his General Surgery Internship at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center, New York, USA; Internal Medicine Residency at the Long Island College Hospital, New York, USA, followed by his Vascular Medicine Fellowship in Cleveland, Ohio, USA.
With almost over 20 years’ of experience in the medical field, he received the following awards: Eye of Lion Award given by the San Francisco Host Lion’s Club, and St. Louise de Marillac Award bestowed by the Daughters of Charity Health System for unselfish dedication to the care of the poor and the sick.
He also held the following positions: the Medical Director/CEO at the San Francisco Vascular Institute, Coordinator for the Philippine Medical Missions, Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California San Francisco, First Filipino Chief of Staff at the Seton Medical Centerin San Mateo County, California, and President of the Philippine Medical Society of Northern California.
n September 5, 2016 he was appointed by the President of the Philippines as Undersecretary of Health. His initial portfolio was Undersecretary for Field Implementation Management for all the Regional Office and DOH-retained hospitals.
